Tezpur, the historical town
This historic and ancient town is situated on the bank of River Brahmaputra. In Sanskrit, 'Teza – means blood and 'pura' means town or city. According to the legend, the battle between Lord Krishna and Banasura for rescuing Aniruddha (the grandson of Lord Krishna) caused so much bloodshed that the entire became drenched with blood. Following the bloodshed, the area was named as 'Tezpur'. The town has several historical ruins of which Bamuni hills and Da Parbatia are worth visiting.  Owing to the birthplace of prominent personalities of Assam such Kalaguru Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, Jyoti Prasad Agarwala and Pani Sarma, Tezpur is also considered as a core region of Assamese culture.

Kaziranga National Park
One of the well known national park of India having world's largest population of Great Indian one horned Rhinoceros, is just 60 km from Tezpur on NH 37.

 Orang National Park
Known as miniature of Kaziranga National Park, the Orang National Park is another rhino bearing protected area of Assam. The park is 120 km from Tezpur towards Guwahati (via NH 52).
